Chik’n is a colourful, casual and up-market little spot that I stumbled across near Baker street, well, up-market in the fried chicken universe! For example, fried chicken shops across London are often extremely cheap, tasty and oh so bad for you! Firstly, when I saw this place I knew that this was not your typical or basic chicken shop. Secondly, I just knew that there would be that Asian twist as I saw a Korean burger being advertised. Therefore I was intrigued to try this Asian influenced chicken out! So chicken lovers, be prepared to read (and eat hopefully!) your heart out on this fried chicken gold mine and enjoy the best of the southern and eastern world!
Chik’n Atmosphere & Decor
This is a dated image of the interior. However, it does differ slightly from this now but it still has the same cheerful, funky and colourful theme. But despite being located around the corner from a busy area like Baker Street station, it does not get extremely busy and crowded. Also, It is surprisingly quite a comfortable place to eat. However, it is not exactly the type of place to sit down for the evening and eat dinner. Furthermore this place is more ideal for a decent, chilled out lunch.
The Chik’n Menu
Yes, this chicken place has the typical available options. But the menu is more pricey than your average chicken shop. Options such as burgers, fries, strips and wings. But there is an Asian twist going on the chik’n menu. Side dishes include asian slaw, bang bang cucumbers and Gangnam style burgers. Also, ice-cold draught beer is served here too!
Chik’n Taste Verdict!
Chicken Katsu Burger: 10/10
Let’s face it, a lot of fried chicken can be very greasy. For instance, fried chicken can make you feel very bloated. But eating at this chicken place is different, the chicken katsu burger was not greasy at all! Therefore it was so crunchy that other people could probably hear you eat this. Therefore the chicken was extremely fresh and crunchy, the batter was just perfect. For instance, you can tell that all if the chicken is cooked to order and made with love. Also it had a brilliant combination of katsu curry sauce, mayo, lettuce and asian slaw. Honestly, this is one of the best fried chicken burgers I have eaten and beats KFC by far! The extra money that you pay in here is well worth every penny.
Fries & Buttermilk & Herb Mayo dip: 6.5/10
Okay. The fries were just very normal, average fries and nothing to shout about, which obviously did not match up to the spectacular chicken. However, they do a range of Korean and cheesy loaded fries that I have yet to try. But they serve home-made dips make up for it! there is a cool range of flavours which are out of the ordinary, flavours such as sriracha sour cream, chipotle ranch and BBQ which give that southern and eastern flavour.
Would I Recommend?
110% yes! I definitely would. The combination of southern fried chicken with an Asian twist just works beautifully. But if you are looking for a cheap bite to eat this place is not ideal as it is more costly. However, what is added on the price is also added on the quality and flavour. Also, this place is perfect for the summer as they serve ice-cold beer as accompaniment to the crispy, delicious chicken that they have on offer!
